Join us October 27: "The Ageless Home: Making Your Home Safer and More Livable"
Raleigh Village East proudly presents its second Zoom session, free to everyone:
The Ageless Home: Making Your Home Safer and More Livable
Tuesday, October 27, at 5:00 PM
A Zoom Presentation and Discussion with Jay Beaman and Melissa Birdsong.
Jay Beaman is a contractor who received the national award from the National Association of Homebuilders for the best senior housing (for a house built on Leonidas Court). Melissa Birdsong is an interior designer and former VP at Lowe’s Companies, Inc. who led efforts to integrate Universal Design principles (developed under the leadership of the late Ron Mace at NCSU) into Lowe’s programs and product offerings through educational publications, vendor and university partnerships, and product development. The Zoom presentation will last approximately 30 minutes, with time at the end for questions from the audience.
One of the most challenging parts of planning to age in our own homes is making sure the house will continue to be a safe and comfortable place. There are many changes, large and small, that will help, especially if we plan ahead and make the modifications before we have to have them, e.g. planning a downstairs bedroom and accessible bath, adjustments to the steps and entry ways of our homes, attention to fixtures and lighting, just to name a few. The topic is so broad that we will not cover all aspects in this first session; in fact, we plan to have a second session in the spring.
This presentation is brought to you by Raleigh Village East, a non-profit neighborhood Aging in Place village (now in the development stage) for Oakwood, Oakdale, Mordecai and East Mordecai, Pilot Mill, Cotton Mill, Capitol Heights, and Capitol Park. If you have questions or want to know more about this new venture, contact an Executive Committee member: Sara Stohler, Peter Rumsey, Deborah Owens, or Melissa Birdsong at email@example.com or visit our website: raleighvillageeast.org.
You may enter the session 15 min before it starts. If you would like help setting up Zoom on your computer or phone, email firstname.lastname@example.org
