Join us September 16 on Zoom!

September 16 Zoom event: Aging in Place: Stories, Tools, & Resources

This post is to invite you to join us via Zoom on Wednesday, September 16, at 5:00 PM, for a session with Liisa Ogburn. Liisa, who lives in Oakwood, was scheduled to be our speaker at the event planned for March 15 to introduce Raleigh Village East to the people it will potentially serve. In addition to being a wonderful neighbor to those who live anywhere near her Person Street home, Liisa is a professional elder consultant who, in addition to working with clients, writes about how to age well for WRAL.

Now, Liisa has offered to give her presentation via Zoom, with an opportunity for us to ask questions. Please use the Zoom link below this article. I look forward to this event not only to hear Liisa speak about something she has real experience with, but also to see your faces and hear your voices via Zoom. We plan for this to be the first of a series of monthly Zoom sessions on various topics related to how we can age in place together.

A word about Zoom. I had never done a Zoom session before the pandemic, but now have had a number of experiences with it, both good and bad. The best have been family get togethers where we just talk and joke and sometimes have a game night. There have been the political “meet the candidate” events which start out good but too often get boring. We are all learning how to use this tool and hope to bring what we know to these RVE sessions to make them something you will learn from and enjoy. We will welcome your feedback.

New to Zoom? I know that having to rely on technology to connect with many events has hit us all without time to prepare, so you may have said, “Enough, I don’t need one more computer thing to learn!” But let me encourage you to try Zoom (it is the only way I have seen my grandkids’ faces since February). As the tv salesmen say, we have “operators standing by” to assist. Just send an email to raleighvillageeast@gmail.com or call me at 919-916-9593 and we will talk you through it. You can put the program on your pc, tablet, or cell phone—and it is free.
